Teen Citizens & Consumers: Speak Up!
A guide to combating intolerance

In Our Communities

Stand up and say "not in our communities" -- i.e., write your newspapers and express your outrage, attend unity forums, rallies, etc.

Establish a task force of government officials, local clergy, school officials, other civil service groups, and citizens to promptly determine appropriate responses to crimes of intolerance and to promote unity.

Offer rewards for information leading to the capture of persons who commit crimes of intolerance.

Begin a safe neighborhood initiative. Form resident councils to assist police. Participate in neighborhood watch type programs conducted by your local law enforcement agencies.

Develop appropriate educational programs for adults.

Create logos and placards and the like that denounce discrimination, and display them in your businesses, homes, etc.
