Description: Posting # 0005367 serve the pre-major students in the School of Business and to assist with other Student Services functions.
Academic advisors help to promote students' academic success and orientation to University life. Through activities developed to help them identify their strengths and interests, they assist students in the selection of a major and inform them of career opportunities.
Advisors in the Beacom School of Business Student Services Center must have a thorough knowledge of the general education and pre-major requirements. They must also be able to communicate the criteria for admission to the programs, the characteristics of each of our seven majors, the remaining requirements for graduation, and the rules of probation and dismissal from our program. Advisors also communicate both orally and in writing with prospective students and their families regarding the features of our programs. They represent the Beacom School of Business at recruitment events and serve as curriculum experts for the Beacom School of Business's academic programs. They encourage quality academic performance, promote involvement in co-curricular experiences, and assist students with other academic issues. They also act as a referral agent for other student services available on campus.
Some evening and weekend work may be required.
A Master's degree in a business field, counseling, education or related field is preferred, Bachelor's degree required. A successful candidate will have experience in a business setting and/or academic counseling/advising and/or experience working with college students or those transitioning from high school to college. The candidate must possess excellent communication skills and the ability to relate to and establish rapport with college students.
