Provide 911 services to the citizens and visitors of Minnehaha County and the City of Sioux Falls, and provide dispatch service to police, fire and EMS agencies 24 hours a day and 365 days a year.
This career requires shift work, weekends and holidays. Our center is always open and staffed 24 hours a day by a team of qualified Communications Operators and Shift Supervisors.
Metro Communications Agency is a consolidated public safety communications center serving Minnehaha County and the City of Sioux Falls. As a Communications Operator you will work with a team of operators responsible for the dispatch services for all emergency services within the city and county. This includes 3 law enforcement agencies, 13 fire departments and 5 ambulance services.
Communications Operators are responsible for processing all calls for service, receiving requests from the public and dispatching the appropriate first responder; they work closely with other first responders, making phone calls, assisting in finding locations, and gathering information needed about the calls; they are also responsible for knowing which officers are available for a call and the status of all officers that are in service for a given time period. All of these services are delivered following strict policies and guidelines learned during an intensive approximately 5 month on-the-job training program.

May include, but not limited to, the following: keyboarding skills test; written and oral examinations; drug screen, references, physical examination, credit check, criminal background, polygraph, and psychological exams.
This career requires successful completion of an intensive on-the-job training program of approximately 5 months, including 2 to 2.5 weeks out of town. Wages paid during training; along with lodging, meals and travel expenses for out of town training.
